Bedtime Converstion

As I sat down on the John's bed, this is the conversation we had...
Me: Oh John, I am getting old (as I am lowering myself down on his toddler bed).
John: Really? Are you going to die?
Me: Mmmm...someday.
John: Really? I don't want you to die.
Me: Well, we all die someday. But then we get to live with Jesus.
John: Will I get to live there too?
Me: Yes, someday.
John: How will we get a drink?
Me: (Smiling) I think Jesus has water.

Oh the conversations with a 3 year old. Who would have known that conversation would happen tonight and that his worry would be that we would get thirsty.

Spring Break 2012 in a Nutshell!

I have to say that I think this is one of the best Spring Breaks our family has ever had. We stayed in KC the whole time but it was great! It was relaxed and even though it rained for most of the days, we found a lot of fun things to do. So here is the run down...

Day 1 - We went to the "Bouncy House" (aka Kid Zone) and played.

Day 2 - We went to Kaleidoscope and the Free Exhibit at Crown Center. I had never been to Kaleidoscope and it was great. However, word of advice, I won't take my little ones by myself again. It is 2 adult job when you have a 2 and 3 year old. After playing there, we went over to Crown Center and did the free exhibit. This is our 2nd time going and I would recommend it. It is a great exhibit about animals.

Day 3 - We stayed home all day because of the rain. We played with stencils, which the kids loved, and worked on some things around the house. When the sun would peek through, we would run outside and play until it started raining again. We also did a science experiment with celery, water and food coloring.

Day 4 - We went and fed the buffalo and the elk. We got to share our carrots and celery with a little boy that didn't have any. We went and played at a little playground that we had never been to before. There was a little boy there and this was the conversation between John and him:
John: "Hi, my name is Lightning. What is yours?"
Boy: "Xavier"
John: " I am just kidding, my name is John. Want to play?
John: "Mom, look my new best friend!"
And that was it. The three kiddos played for quite awhile and had a blast.
When we got home and finished naps we did finger painting and packed to spend the night with Nana Barb and Papa!
Day 5: Matt and I went to the midnight showing of Hunger Games with our dear friends Sarah and Andrew Beard. It was SO good. LOVED it but I felt so yucky the next day because I didn't go to bed until 3 am. I just can't do that anymore! We spent the day at Nana and Papa's house and then finished the day with a baby shower for Sarah and Andrew. They are expecting June 21st and we are SO excited to meet this little one. I can barely talk about it without tears welling up in my eyes. They are going to be the most excellent parents. It has been a long awaited journey for them and I can't wait to see what the future holds for this little person.

Day 6: Zoo! We renewed our pass (which if you are a Jackson County or Clay County resident...they have a great deal going on right now!). Us and the rest of KC was at the zoo that day but it was a beautiful day and we had a great time.

So as you can see....we stayed busy but it wasn't a crazy buzy. There was plenty of time for playing and relaxing.
I hope everyone else's spring break was just as good!

Sweet Sophia had her 2 year old wellness check up today. She weighed in at 30 lbs and 5.5 oz (in the 87th percentile) and stood at 36.5 inches tall (97th percentile). She is a growing girl! I believe that she is going to be tall. I think her length is going to be in her torso. 2T shirts are already starting to be too short. The doctor was pleased at how she has met different milestones. Sophia was great. She sat so still and let the doctor check her out. She even strutted around when the doctor wanted her to walk. She ended her walk with a little dance. She got her last shot and won't need another one until Kindergarten.

John picked this book out at the Library on Saturday. When he brought it to me he said, "This book is called Spending Time with Mommy on Spring Break". All I could do was smile and give him a giant hug. You know it is hard to be a working mom. There are times I doubt myself on having a job besides being a mom. However, I do have the best job in the world because it allows me to have the special breaks and summers off. It makes my time with my kids "oh so special". And when I am at my job, I get the privilege of being an advocate for other kids. And I am proud to tell my own children that their mommy gets to help other kiddos.
This book is super cute, especially if you have a little boy. I would recommend it for a bed time story.

Sophia's 2nd Birthday Party

Sophia's birthday party was a hit! We had some sick family, so a few didn't get to attend but we still had some fun.

John was so excited that it was his sister's birthday. He was a big helper and a great big brother!
The birthday bow that I made!
We could have gotten Sophia balloons for her birthday and she would have been perfectly happy. She LOVED playing with them.
She tried out the appetizers before the party.
Luke and John being silly...as usual!
Sorry this picture is a little blurry...but Sophia loved her new vanity and her phone that went with it.
Our guests saw a side of Sophia that many don't see. She is usually not one to be the center of attention; however, for her party that changed. She was all about it! She would try on each of her presents and walk around so everyone could see and comment on the present. She was loving it!

Sophia Turns 2

Dear Sophia,
Today you turn 2 my sweet girl. I can't believe 2 years have already gone by. I remember holding you for the first time in the hospital. I had been scared that I would never be able to love like I loved John...but I was so wrong. I instantly fell in love with you, my darling. You make me smile when you try to whisper to me but it so quiet I can't hear. I love how you have developed a love for books and you want someone reading to you all the time. I love how you are already learning to stand up for yourself. I can already see that you won't back down when it is something you really want. I love that you LOVE shoes! I am amazed at how you act like a little momma to your baby dolls. I love how you already look up to your brother and he already tries to protect you. You are girly girl, who loves dress up, dolls and bows; however, you also love playing with cars and trains.
I could have never imagined that I would be so blessed to have such an incredible daughter. I pray that as you grow up you will remember the words my mom always said to me "Pretty is as Pretty does". Sophia, as you grow up, it can be so hard. I pray that I can be a mentor and help guide you into being a woman of God. I am excited to see the plans that God has in store for you. We love you my sweet Fia.
